In the Chat of TCEC great messages are commemorated with the !addquote command. They are then available to be recalled with the !quote command. As the TCEC is the Top Chess Engine Championship, the Idea of TCQC is to have the Top Chat Quote Championship to find the best Quote of TCEC. The first TCQC was held in the beginning of 2021 as a series of Strawpoll polls in a knockout format until the eventual Winner was found. The results can be found here .

Since then, many new Quotes have been added, which would have made the creation of a poll based TCQC way too tedious. Therefore, this website was created and the second TCQC will go live around 30.10.2022 10am UTC
This version of the TCQC format Matches the Quotes 1vs1. Every quote starts with an ELO of 1500 and their ELO will be Updated according to the ELO update formula with a value of K=32.
For this the TCQC matching system works as follows: Every quote has a priority score that is calculated as 10^(ELO/400)/votecount. Then, 1 random quotes get pulled from top5% priority quotes. The second Quote will be also picked from the Top5% of quotes, but it will be from the 10% closest in elo. Right now there are 1355 quotes, then one quote will be picked from the top 67 sorted by priority. Then a second one will be picked from the 6 closest elo quotes compared to the first quote from the top 67 priority quotes. This way, the vote distribution between quotes will approach the expected score between the two quotes. This is done, so we get a better sample size for the top quotes to get an accurate winner.
The final ELO scores will, however, be calculated with bayes ELO instead. Bayes ELO calculates the ELO distribution that is most likely to produce a set of results. And, hence, gives a much better approximation of the real strength compared to the ELO update formula. Potentially, the ELO values might get set to their Bayes ELO values at different points during the tournament so that Quotes that had some tough opponents early on get a fair chance to catch up.
This Version of the TCQC will end roughly one day before the end of the TCEC season 23 Sufi. An exact time will be announced once the time of the end of Sufi becomes clearer. Depending on how clear the results of the TCQC are, there might be a knockout tournament or another round of the current system with only the top quotes for the final week or so.
The Final Format has now decided to be a voting round between the top 50 quotes, All of the Top 50 quotes will get the same amount of votes in the final round. The final result will be decided with a bayes ELO calculation over all Votes including the initial and final round.
The winning quote will win a Nightbot command.
